Love the Game, Not the Odds
Love the Game, Not the Odds
Let’s celebrate the start of the season by saying NO to sports betting sponsorship.

AFL North East Border along with over 500 local sporting clubs from across Victoria are proud partners of the Love the Game program. We have joined the club and committed to saying NO to sports betting sponsorship.

We want all clubs to join the club to protect our young players from gambling harm.

Kids can’t remember a time when footy was just footy, and gambling wasn’t part of it. We want to shift the conversation from the odds.

In 2016, there were an average of 374 gambling ads broadcast daily on Australian free-to-air TV. When young people see excessive sports betting promotion it can seem like gambling is normal, and that sport is all about the odds, not the game. When something feels normal, it doesn’t seem risky.

Your club can make a difference!

It only takes two minutes to sign up, and your club will have access to free resources, including a gambling harm prevention policy, social media messages, web banners and educational videos to use at your leisure to help prevent and reduce gambling harm in your community.

Be a part of this growing movement and join the club.

Loving the game, not the odds.

Ben has been involved with the local Wangaratta Auskick centre for five years and the coordinator for four of those, the exciting announcement was announced at the allocation night for Auskickers graduating to the Wangaratta and District Junior Football League in front of local Auskickers, parents and local WDJFL Clubs. The prize for the award is a grand final weekend experience including three nights' accommodation in Melbourne, a ticket to the Welcome to Melbourne function, attendance at the grand final parade, and a reserve seat ticket to the 27 September grand final. Over his time, Ben has secured significant sponsorship for the program; has initiated the all-girls' group; provides a support network for smaller centres across Wangaratta and surrounding regions; contributes to community events like allocation night and puts in a heap of extra work with the allocation process; organises half-time Auskick games at local football league matches; and, of course, the countless hours spent organising jumpers, certificates, equipment and everything in between, year after year. Wangaratta is regularly one of the biggest centres in the state, if not the nation, and this year was the biggest in Victoria. That, as you can imagine, makes it almost a full-time commitment, year-round. A huge congratulations to Ben from everyone at AFLNEB!
